Meet The Veteran Community Mortgage Team

January 15, 2025
Led by Jason Stier, the team specializes in VA loans and brings a wealth of mortgage lending experience to Texas and beyond.

Recently, we were excited to welcome Jason Stier (Director of VA Lending) and the Veteran Community Mortgage team to Waterstone Mortgage. Based in Bartonville, Texas, Jason and his team are exceptional mortgage professionals with years of experience. And the best part? They have a passion for serving veteran homebuyers.

For many lenders, VA loans make up only a small portion of their business, so they have limited knowledge on how to best serve veterans through this loan type. But Jason, who is fondly known as the “VA Loan Boss,” and his team specialize in VA loans, focusing almost exclusively on them.

“We saw a gap in the market,” Jason explains. “There weren’t many lenders who really understood the ins and outs of the VA process, and we wanted to change that. Our team is dedicated to ensuring veterans get the benefits they’ve earned.”

Jason and his team have been working together for years and have helped hundreds of military homebuyers achieve their homeownership goals. They excel in helping veterans understand their eligibility requirements and can assist with overcoming challenges such as low credit scores.

The Importance of VA Loan Expertise

VA loans have a variety of unique characteristics, and it’s essential for veterans to work with a skilled and informed loan professional when using this type of home loan. Some of the benefits of VA loans include no down payment requirement and no private mortgage insurance (PMI). Still, it can be a tricky journey if you don’t choose the right lender.

“Veterans deserve a lender who understands the process inside and out,” Jason says. “We make sure every client feels informed, supported, and confident every step of the way.”

In one instance, Jason recalls working with a veteran who had several obstacles, including his high debt-to-income ratio and credit issues.

“Most lenders would’ve turned him away,” he says. “But we dug in, worked with him to improve his credit, and got creative with his loan structure. In the end, we made it happen, and he and his family moved into their dream home. That’s why we do what we do.”

Serving Those Who Serve

To Jason and the Veteran Community Mortgage team, serving veterans has far more meaning than simply transacting a loan — it’s about giving back to those who have sacrificed their time and their personal lives to serve their nation.

“Helping veterans isn’t just a job — it’s a calling,” Jason says. “They’ve given so much for us, and we owe it to them to make this process as smooth and stress-free as possible.”

In fact, Jason’s favorite part of his job is helping current and former military servicemembers turn their homeownership dreams into reality. “There’s nothing more rewarding than handing the keys to someone who has given so much for our country. It’s about honoring their service in a way that truly makes a difference,” he says.

Lending in Texas and Beyond

While Jason and his team have an unwavering commitment to veterans, they offer a variety of other home loans through Waterstone Mortgage — including conventional, FHA, and USDA loans. They specialize in finding the right mortgage solutions for homebuyers with unique circumstances.

The Veteran Community Mortgage team primarily serves buyers in Bartonville, the surrounding communities, and other areas of Texas. Waterstone Mortgage has the ability to lend in 48 states.

Overall, the team’s mission is to serve homebuyers as they navigate the mortgage process, ensuring that their clients feel educated and empowered throughout the experience.
